the maison

Paris, the 1950s. A time when elegance was not displayed — it was lived.

Perfume was never a declaration, nor an attempt to explain.

It simply underscored presence.

THE VISION

Jean d’Hennery is shaped by a contemporary vision of French haute perfumery, informed by the restraint, elegance and cultural sophistication of mid-century Paris.

Restraint over excess. Presence over display. Craftsmanship over convention.

A vision in which fragrance becomes not a statement, but a quiet expression of character.

The parisian trace

The cultural atmosphere of 1950s Paris is one of Jean d’Hennery’s creative references today.

Parisian archives also preserve records of a perfume house bearing the Jean d’Hennery name during this period, located at 185 Boulevard Murat in Paris’s 16th arrondissement.

This historical reference exists within the broader cultural landscape of French perfumery of the period, which today serves as one of Jean d’Hennery’s sources of inspiration.

A Language of Restraint

Historical sources indicate that, during the mid-twentieth century, fragrances bearing the Jean d’Hennery name were created within the tradition of French perfumery.

The name appears in records until the mid-1950s, after which it gradually receded from active use. It is believed that approximately fifteen fragrances were created. Today, a small number of vintage flacons occasionally surface in private collections and at specialist auctions.

These archival traces offer a glimpse into a particular moment in Parisian perfume culture — an era defined by discretion, refinement and intimacy.

WHAT REMAINED

Historical references to the Jean d’Hennery name are not limited to Paris. Traces can also be found in materials connected with London and New York.

They belong to another time — fragments of perfume history that provide cultural context, but do not represent a continuous history.

Today

Jean d’Hennery is a contemporary, independent perfume house.

Created today as a new, author-led project, the House looks to the aesthetic and cultural spirit of 1950s France as a source of creative inspiration — to understated luxury, impeccable taste and a certain inner discipline.

The historical traces of the Jean d’Hennery name belong to their own time; the contemporary Jean d’Hennery is writing its own story.

Reinterpreted for the present, these ideas shape a contemporary expression of French haute perfumery founded on craftsmanship, precision and modern innovation.

Creation

Every Jean d’Hennery fragrance is an original contemporary creation.

The compositions are developed by contemporary perfumers with exceptional attention to the quality of raw materials, depth of structure and purity of formulation — in accordance with the highest standards of French perfumery.

Each fragrance is produced in limited quantities, preserving its rarity and individuality for those who choose it.

A MAISON BEYOND THE ORDINARY

Jean d’Hennery takes inspiration from an era in which elegance required no explanation and fragrance was perhaps the most intimate form of presence.

Today, that sensibility is reimagined — not as a reconstruction of the past, but as an entirely contemporary point of view.

“Jean d’Hennery was never conceived to follow. It was created for those who already understand — who require no introduction, no declaration and no trend to define what is beautiful.”
